Welcome to the Official
Website of Justin Blalock
Hello
everyone, Welcome to the site! I
am extremely pleased to have you
follow my football career and to
visit my website. I have been
blessed beyond belief to be a
part of the National Football
League. I am excited about
playing for the Atlanta Falcons.
We believe that the year ahead
will be another strong year, one
in which we will continue to
build on past achievements.
Since I came into the League, I
have been moving at lightning
speed--from making the
transition from college to the
pros...moving from Texas to
Georgia...a college town to
metropolitan Atlanta! I was a
little bit used to a metro area
because I grew up in Plano,
Texas, a mid-sized city just
north of Dallas. But Atlanta is
a bit more cosmopolitan than
laid-back Dallas.
I am an only child and I grew up
playing several sports. I went
from flag football to Little
League baseball to football, and
hockey--yes, hockey! When the
Minnesota Northstars moved to
Dallas and became the ‘Stars’,
hockey became the new craze in
North Texas. However, I moved
back to football when I got into
Middle School.
I was a three sport athlete in
Middle School--basketball,
football, and track. Being tall
at an early age (5’10’’ in 7th
grade) made me a key center on
the basketball team. Being very
strong (I could bench press 300
pounds in 8th grade), I was a
great candidate for the shot
put. I still hold the Plano city
and the District record of 63.75
feet! But football became my
passion. I think I love the game
for its physical nature and
demand on competition.
I played both defense and
offense through my freshman
year, then settled in as the
left guard on the offensive line
when I made the varsity team as
a sophomore. Starting for three
years gave me great success in
high school. I even made the
All-USA Today team my senior
year! Wow, what an honor! The
success also made me a much
sought-after player by colleges.
After receiving numerous
interest letters, I narrowed my
choices to the universities of
Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma, and
Texas. And the Texas Longhorns
won my heart!
At Texas, I redshirted my
freshman year. But went on to
start 51 consecutive games,
breaking a 10-year record. I was
fortunate enough to be
recognized for my play with
nominations for various awards
including the Lombardi Award
(nation’s top lineman) and the
Outland Trophy (nation’s top
interior lineman). I played with
some great players and for some
great coaches. I also forged
some lifelong friendships.
My dream was to help win a
National Championship. When I
saw a way to make a key block,
that freed QB Vince Young to run
in a touchdown, that dream came
true on January 5, 2006 at the
Rose Bowl. That’s when the
University of Texas Longhorns
defeated the USC Trojans 41-38.
I can still smell the roses!!
As much as I love doing well in
football, I also enjoy excelling
in the classroom. My family
promotes academics even more
than athletics. When I graduated
from high school, I was one of
five finalists for the Watkins
Award for the nation’s top
scholar athlete. So in my junior
year at Texas, when I had the
possibility to leave school for
the NFL, I chose to stay in
school. I graduated in December
2006 with a degree in Youth and
Community Studies in the School
of Education. It was a proud
moment for my family and for me.
My next dream came true when the
Falcons drafted me in the second
round (number 39 overall) in the
2007 draft. I feel blessed to
have enjoyed such a long and
gratifying football career. I
hope this information gives you
a better picture of the man
under the helmet.
To help you get to know me even
better, I’ve included a list of
